Volunteer work

We have projects throughout Berlin and Brandenburg that work with volunteers and depend on their help. Around 800 volunteers are already involved with the association on a voluntary basis and it is impossible to imagine our projects and our society in Berlin and Brandenburg without them. This is how we live practical humanism. Every day. Our motto: Helping people to help themselves.

We humanists want to support people in shaping their lives independently and contribute to greater social justice. We see ourselves as an organisation representing the interests of non-religious people. As an ideological community and public corporation, the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg is on an equal footing with the churches. We are committed to a more humane society on the basis of tolerance, self-determination and solidarity.

As a volunteer in our association, you provide valuable support and committed help for others in realising a self-determined life. Because the best thing we can do is to use our reason, our courage and our passion to responsibly enable every person to live a good life. Every human life is individual and unique. And people have the right to shape their own lives.

However, self-determination is not an easy endeavour; it has to be fought for every day, often against internal and external resistance. This can only be achieved together with others who also promote and respect self-determination. Sustainable social relationships and respect for others can create meaning and fulfilment in life.
