As an ideological organisation, the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg represents the interests and rights of non-religious people in state and society.
Based on tolerance, self-determination and solidarity, we are committed to a more human society.
The Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg supports the state in the formation and preservation of a canon of values by promoting peace, rights and values.
Self-determination and solidarity
The video also offers you an insight into the association (in German).
The Humanist Association Germany is active in Berlin and Brandenburg in the areas of practical life support, education and culture:
- We maintain humanist traditions and close contact with our more than 15,000 members,
- run day care centres and family centres,
- are involved in open children's and youth (association) work,
- teach humanistic life skills,
- provide numerous health and social programmes,
- take care of prevention and support,
- advise on living wills and accompany the dying and their relatives.
With more than 1,300 full-time employees and around 800 active volunteers, we provide support, advice and assistance regardless of ethnic origin, nationality, sexual orientation or ideology.A humanistic way of life also means acting in solidarity and responsibly. That is why we attach great importance to promoting the voluntary commitment of our members, in respect of the humanist principle of self-determination. The proportion of voluntary work in our association is constantly increasing and the commitment of our members is impressive. The volunteers who support us are committed to helping and accompanying others in the realisation of a self-determined life.
Today, only just under half of Germans still see themselves as religiously bound. Christian ethics and morals no longer have a monopoly position in Germany. Other value systems such as secular humanism are on an equal footing. In Berlin and Brandenburg, around two thirds of the population are non-denominational. This means that around four million people lead a fulfilled life without religious affiliation. In Berlin, humanist traditions are firmly and visibly linked to the city.
We are convinced that people have the freedom and responsibility to give meaning and form to their lives without relying on supernatural explanations.
